Mansion of the 19th century.

Vaud

21st century luxury comfort in a historic setting.

The transformation of the historic building, classified as Grade 2, restores the lost splendour of a luxury Maison de Maître nestled in a historic garden.

An underground extension has added a spa and indoor pool to the residential programme. The existing building on its gravel plateau forms a harmonious whole with the extension. A single opening, like a scalpel cut in the ground, forms an eye and provides natural light to this new space, while remaining discreet. The reading of the building, its historic facades and the English garden are not altered.

The quality of the existing interior spaces is improved by the creation of new openings in the façade, maximising light and views towards the garden, and by reinforcing the interior circulation with a new staircase and lift.

The existing interior ambience, created by the plaster ceilings, the walls covered by painted woodwork and the parquet floors, has been enriched and diversified with the use of noble materials and contemporary objects.

The use of traditional techniques is in unison with the integration of today's technology in order to reach the objectives of sustainable development.

Underground extension with underpinning

The quality of the existing interior spaces is enhanced by the opening of the false windows in the façade, the central staircase extended into the basement to connect the extension and the views to the outside in each room.

The plaster ceilings, stucco mouldings, painted woodwork and parquet floors have been enriched and diversified with noble materials and contemporary objects to give the interior its former lustre.

The use of traditional techniques is in unison with the integration of today's technologies, heat pumps, solar panels and pellet boilers to achieve the objectives of sustainable development.
